Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing

This is a subject I have been interested in since I started my breastfeeding ‘career’. It makes sense that there should be something natural that prevents pregnancy from happening whilst a mother already has a baby, but I have also heard people comment that women still got pregnant even thought they were breastfeeding.

Kippley explains that it is  breastfeeding in a certain way that acts as contraception: ecological breastfeeding or natural mothering, as it is a whole pattern of childcare. There are 7 standards to follow and once these are practiced a wonderful side effect to ecological breastfeeding is extended infertility.

Kippley also takes a lok at other advantages of ecological breastfeeding which includes the benefits of breastfeeding older children and mother’s health. A book that looks at breastfeeding as part of mothering and how it is designed to keep the mother and baby together for a long period.

My aunt always talked about how breastfeeding can be used as a contraceptive, I never really knew what she meant. I shall be interested in reading this book.
